For as long as I remember — I was raised in a bilingual home and grew up on three continents — I grew up surrounded not only by language, but actively thinking about language. That thinking carried me into my education and later into my professional life. From a young age, computing was a fascination. In the absence of any computers, I wrote and dry-ran my code on paper; when my school got its first computer, I was ready. I have been coding ever since.
I have over 15 years experience in various Natural Language Processing applications including semantic tagging, sentiment analysis, and machine translation. I have worked in a variety of languages, but the majority of my professional career has centered on the languages of the Middle East, North Africa and the Afghanistan/Pakistan region.
My first programming job was writing controller software for autoclaves and industrial ovens on small single-board computers. As computers evolved, so did my work; I've gone from those days, to creating web applications and databases, as well as software working with Natural Language.
I’m a sign language interpreter who works between American Sign Language and spoken languages, primarily English. I relish complex, high-register material that requires my extra-linguistic knowledge, as well as my familiarity with languages and cultures.
I have been writing code for 40 years, and the following are my abilities in currently relevent technologies.
In addition to the below I have a working knowledge of Spanish, German, Greek, Latin, Pashto, Urdu, Hebrew, Syriac, Sanskrit, and Jordanian Sign Language.
